 Why HEPA filters? Question: I am looking for information on air purification systems for my sister, who has chronic asthma. I would like to know the difference between systems that use HEPA filters and other methods, such as negative ion systems. Answer: HEPA filters are made from densely wound glass fibers that trap 99.97% of all particles as small as .3 microns. Negative ion generators are usually not recommended for people with asthma because they produce ozone a respiratory irritant.
